Description
This listing is for three pieces of a 1:9 (Breyer Traditional) scale modular free-standing three-rail fence in white. It consists of a post with no rails, a post with flush rails. and a post with inset rails. These can be combined using a temporary adhesive (rubber cement/wax/poster tack/etc.) to create one or two complete sections of fencing.
Additional ‘middle’ sections (where the rails are inset on the post) can be added to make a longer fence or corners. If you would like additional sections, please contact me and I can make you a custom listing.
Product Info
The fence is made of basswood and the circular bases are made of plywood and an inset paperclip. The posts have a drilled hole that’s filled with plasticine clay, allowing for adjustments to make sure things are level when you put it together. The paperclip posts can be pushed through a train grass mat for a more realistic setup (see photos).
The fence is sanded, assembled with wood glue, and painted white. It has been coated with matte varnish so you can wipe it with a damp cloth, but you can’t soak it in water.
The fence is relatively sturdy, so it should hold up to basic wear and tear, but is not intended for children. This is meant for adults (or young adults) who are using it for a display, Photo Show, or Live Show setups.
The fence in the photos is only an example, but I have built jigs and other tools that allow me to make sure all fences are identical enough to be interchangeable. I do my best to make sure things are a consistent shape and fit together well, but these are handmade items so they will not be 100% identical.

Order Timelines
These fences are made to order and depending on the amount ordered and my current wood stockpile, there may be a delay in construction. If you need a fence by a certain date, please contact me first to make sure I can fufill the order (custom_orders@Martha.net).
Otherwise the fence will take roughly a week to build, as both the glue, paint, and sealer all need time to dry before shipping.
Sizing
The wood is cut by hand and then sanded, so sizes are approximate.
Posts are 6 11/16 inches high and 9/16 x 1/2 square. They are made from a 1/2 square dowel plus a 1/16 plank on one side to bring it to correct width. This means you will need to be careful how you assemble things so the wide side is facing the rails.
Rails are 10 11/16 inches long and 11/16 wide. They are made from a 1/2 plank plus a 3/16 plank that have been combined with wood glue and wood putty. Sections with inset planks are 10 7/8 inches long.
The circular bases are 3 inches in diameter and the optional half-circle bases are 1 13/16th wide.
The circular bases extend 1 1/4 inches beyond the posts (the half-circle bases are roughly flush with the edge of the posts).
So, with the half-circle bases this combo would be a little over 21 inches wide. With circular bases, it would be a little under 24 and a single section of the fence (one endpost, one flush rails, circular bases) would be 12 inches.
To see if this fence will work with your model, it can be helpful to assemble a paper version and see how it looks. I do take custom orders, so if you need a fence that’s larger or smaller, please drop me a line at custom_orders@Martha.net.
